Talking to TNN about the smart products IIT director S G Dhandhey ,said "Some products are in use in western countries ..but we are using indigenous technology to design products which would fulfill typical Indian demands." He said IITians working on these products would also take into account needs of people living in rural and urban areas. Presently, 10 students and four faculty members are working on two-year master designing programme. IIT plans to enhance number of students and professors in near future as scientists find tremendous scope in this field .
Experts at IIT are designing specific censors for buildings which would alert owners about the maintenance requirements and any kind of possible damage. Similarly ,specific software would alert the house-owner about the heat loading ,gas leakage or electrical circuit in kitchen. Not only this ,intelligent refrigerators would keep its owner update with latest position about the food stock inside it and remind him or her about the stock needed for another day ," said Dr Dhandhey.
We can also load a system in the refrigerator which would directly place orders to grocer, milk vendors or any specific shop as wished by the owner , he added ."Specific censors attached in the refrigerator would also provide prior information about any kind of technical fault,"he said.
Similarly, intelligent ornaments designed by IITians would measure blood pressure, heart beats and body temperature and auto toys would not only entertain but educate children in joyful manner, he director said. Specific computer chip of toys would enable children to learn lessons and answer queries, Dhandhey added.
